Character Design: Mine for Tapatías Voleibol

Client: Tapatías Voleibol, a professional women’s volleyball team based in Guadalajara, Jalisco

Context: Development of a character/mascot for the team, inspired by the Minerva, an iconic symbol of Guadalajara.

My role: Character design for “Mine,” from concept through final design.

The challenge: Translating a monumental, widely recognized city symbol, the Minerva statue, into a friendly character applicable to sports merchandise, without losing the connection to the original icon.

Process: Conceptual development of the character starting from the Minerva, sketches and design proposals, with initial planning to apply it across different types of athletic apparel.

Deliverables: Character design, “Mine.”

Tools: Illustrator, Photoshop

Result: A brand character for a professional women’s volleyball team, connecting the team’s identity to a recognized icon of Guadalajara.
